Warm up (5’) Teacher’s and Ss’ activities Content - T asks, Ss answer the questions. - T corrects and gives marks if necessary. Questions : - If you want to attend an English class, how can you get the information from the course? - Have you ever read any advertisements about English courses? - What kinds of information can you see in the advertisements? 2. Knowledge formation activities (36’) Teacher’s and Ss’ activities Content - T introduces new words and explains. - Ss practices reading new words after teacher. - Ss reads new words before the class. - T checks and corrects if necessary. - T explains the requirement of exercise a. - Ss read the text in silence and do the exercises individually. - Ss compare the answers in pairs. - T calls Ss to give the answers on the board. - T checks and corrects if necessary. - Ss copy down the correct answers in their notebooks. Answer key : Foreign Language Council is the most suitable school for Mr. Lam because it offers suitable class time, language level as well as time to start with Mr. Lam notes. - T asks, Ss answer the question. Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, Ss know how to write a letter of inquiry to institution requesting for more information about the course and fees. - Grammar: Past simple, present simple - Vocabulary: Related to learning a foreign language b. Skills: Listening, speaking, reading and writing. c. Attitude: - Ss will be educated about learning English. 2. Write. * Ss know how to write a letter and complete a letter using the words given. A letter of inquiry is a request for more information or action. In all formal letters, you must include the addresses of the writer and the recipient. a. Read this letter. Write a letter of inquiry to the institution requesting for more information about the courses and fees. - Ss write formal letters individually. - Ss compare the answer in pairs. - T calls some Ss to show their letters in front of the class. - T checks and corrects any mistakes if necessary. - Ss copy down the correct letter. Guiding letter : Dear Sir, I saw your institute’s advertisement on today’s TV program. I am very interested in learning English and I would like some information about your Institute. I can speak a little English, but I read it very slowly and my writing is bad, so I want to improve my reading and writing. Could you please provide more information about the length of the courses and fees for beginners ? I can supply my record of English study if necessary. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
