Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will able to: - use the adverbs of frequency - know how to use the past simple tense B. Procedure: Time Activities 5’ 3’ 10’ 15’ 10’ 2’ 1. The adverbs of frequency - Revise adverbs of frequency: + List some adverbs of frequency: always, often, sometimes, normally, as a rule, occasionally,... Use: Adverbs of frequency show how often something happens Position: we put the adverbs of frequency: + in front of normal verb: Eg. We never go to bed late + between an auxiliary verb and the main verb: Eg. He doesn’t usually read newspapers after dinner. + after the verb to be: Eg. I’ m always free on Sundays. Note: We put “as a rule” at the beginning of the sentence. Exercise 1 (exercise 2 in text book) Put each of the adverbs in its correct order into sentences in the book - Introduce the Exercise to students and explain how to do it - Ask students to do it - Let them work individually - Check, correct mistakes 2. The past simple tense - Revise the past simple tense by giving an example: Eg. He went to school yesterday. - Ask Ss to work in pairs and discuss the form and use of the past simple tense. * Form: (+) S + Vpast + O (-) S + didn’t + Vbare + O (?) Did (not) + S + Vbare + O? - Revise some rules when transfer a verb into past form - Ask Ss question: When do we use this tense? -> Use: - Hành động, sự kiện đã xảy ra tại một thời điểm xác định trong quá khứ Eg. Tom died in 1895 - Hành động sự kiện đã thực hiện trong một khoảng thời gian ở quá khứ, nhưng nay hoàn toàn chấm dứt Eg. He lived in Hanoi from 1990 to 2000. ( hiện nay anh ta không còn sống ở Hà Nội) - Hành động thường làm hay quen làm trong quá khứ Eg. I often went swimming every Sunday last year. - Ask Ss to give more examples Exercise 2: (exercise 3 in textbook) - Introduce the exercise to students and explain how to do it - Explain some difficult words if necessary - Ask students to do it - Let them work individually - Walk round and help Ss - Check, correct mistakes , give reasons and mark 1.was done; 2. cooked; 3. were; 4. smelt; 5. told; 6. sang; 7. began; 8. felt; 9.put out; 10. crept; 11. slept; 12. woke; 13. was; 14. leapt; 15. hurried; 16. found; 17. wound; 18. flowed. Exercise 3: Use the Past form of the verbs: 1. Yesterday, I (go)______ to the restaurant with a client. 2. We (drive) ______ around the parking lot for 20 mins to find a parking space. 3. When we (arrive) ______ at the restaurant, the place (be) ______ full. 4. The waitress (ask) ______ us if we (have) reservations. 5. I (say), "No, my secretary forgets to make them." 6. The waitress (tell)______ us to come back in two hours. 7. My client and I slowly (walk) ______ back to the car. 8. Then we (see) ______ a small grocery store. 9. We (stop) in the grocery store and (buy) ______ some sandwiches. 10.
