Warm up

3 minutes T - > Ss T asks Ss to open the course book page 9 and look at the picture

T gives 2 questions:

- What are the people in the picture doing?

- Do you think they are happy? Why? / Why not?

Now we will learn lesson 2: Reading

Pre-reading

10 minutes T -> Ss Vocabulary:

T explains meaning of new words

- Sociable: thân thiện, gần gũi.

T says: “I like making friends with many people. I have an outgoing personality. I am very sociable. So “sociable” mean?

- Enormous: to lớn, khổng lồ

T asks Ss to answer the question:

Do you know “tiny”?

Tiny means a very small. Antony of “tiny” is “enormous”. So “What does “enormous” mean?”

- Tend: trông nom, chăm sóc

T says: “When I am ill, my mother looks after me. Do you know “look after”?

Look after” is synonyms with “tend”. So what does “tend” mean?

- Critical: phê bình, chit trích

T says and points to picture: Because I broke flower vase, my mother was “critical” of me. So what does “critical” mean?

- Vulnerable: dễ bị tổn thương

T says: “Baby’s body is very vulnerable to knife”.

So what does “vulnerable” mean?

T reads new words twine. Then Ss listen and repeat that.

T calls Ss to stand up and read aloud all the new words.

T checks and corrects their pronunciation

T asks Ss to do task 3 in one minute

T calls Ss to stand up and read aloud their answer.

T checks their answer and gives the correct answers

While- reading
Task 2
8 minutes
T -> Ss
T asks Ss to look at the task 2 and read the text in 3 minutes then work in pair to decide the best title for text. Remind Ss that the title for the text is the one that gives the general idea of the whole text.
While Ss are reading T goes around and checks Ss’s answer and guide Ss to the correct choice if necessary by helping them eliminate the sentences that are only about one aspect of the text.

Improve reading skills scan for specific information from conversation.
Improve pairs work skill.
Task 4 
5 minutes
Ss -> Ss
T asks Ss to look at the task 4 and continue to work in pairs and find out what it refers to in each of the sentences. Let Ss read and understand the sentences before and after the one that has the word in it to decide what it means. Ss can use the elimination technique to give the right answer.

Task 5 
10 minutes
Ss ->Ss
T asks Ss to work in group to answer the questions in task 5.
T divides class into 4 groups. Each group includes 5 to 6 people.
T asks Ss to read the questions first to make sure they understand what information they need to answer the questions.
Ss underline the key words in the questions and the text. Each group discusses and finds the answer in the text.
T goes around the class help if necessary.
T checks, corrects mistakes and gives the correct answers.
Key:
1, They do better at school, become more sociable, and have better relationships with their teachers and friends.
2, because it shows that they care about their wives and this makes their wives happy.
3, they may fall ill easily or may think about divorce.
4, there is a positive atmosphere for the family.
Post-reading

T asks Ss to discuss with a partner about 2 questions in task 6:
Do you have any problems with sharing housework?
What benefits do you get when sharing housework?
T goes around the class help if necessary.
T calls Ss to stand up and tell whole class their answer.
T checks, corrects mistakes and gives the correct answers.

T asks Ss to learn by heart all the new words.
