Unit 8: THE STORY OF MY VILLAGE

Lesson: SPEAKING

Time allotted: 45minutes

I. Aim: improve Ss’ speaking skill.

 1. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

 - Learn more new words to talk about changes of lives in the community.

 - Talk about plans to improve living standard of the community.

 2. Skill: use conditional type 1 to talk about real supposition at present.

II. Methods: Integration, mainly communication

III. Teaching aids: chalk, board, textbook, lesson plan.

I. Aim: improve Ss’ speaking skill.
 1. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
 - Learn more new words to talk about changes of lives in the community.
 - Talk about plans to improve living standard of the community.

I. Warm-up: (5’)
- Write the incomplete words on the board, ask Ss to give complete words:

-Teacher says: to make life in the country better, what should be done with things mentioned above? à New lesson.
II. Pre-speaking:
Task 1 (15’)
-Explain new words :
+ flooded (adj): bị ngập lụt
+ to widen (v) = make larger: mở rộng
+canal (n)= man-made waterway for irrigation: con kênh
+to resurface (v) = renew: trải lại
+ muddy (adj) = full of mud: lầy lội
+ lorry (n): xe tải
+ export (v) : xuất khẩu
+ cart (n): xe bò/ xe ngựa
+ to raise (v): nâng lên
-Explain the requirements in Task1 (The villagers of Ha Xuyen are discussing plans to improve life in the village. Match each of the plans with its possible result)
- Have Ss do the task in pairs.
- Call on some Ss to read the answer aloud in class
- Check and give correct answers

III. While-speaking:
Task 2 (10’)
-- Let students work in groups of three: read and practise the conversation in task 2
- Go around and help students if needed
- Call on some groups to practise the conversation in front of the class
- Check their pronunciation
- Give the structure of Conditional sentence type 1
If clause , main clause
If + S + V(s/es) ..., S + will/ can +V.
- Ask students to give comments on the structure
- Ask students to make more sentences with the above structure
IV. Post- speaking:
Task 3 (10’)
 - Keep Ss in groups, using the ideas in task 1 (may ask some more possible result if necessary) to continue the conversation.
*Giving agreement :
 - I think that we should.......
 - That’s a good ideas
 - I think so. We should 
 - I completely agree with you 
A: I think we should build a football ground.
B: I completely agree with you. If it is built, young people can play sports and improve their health.
C: A football ground is a place where people meet and exchange ideas.
A: What about a medical centre? I think it’s necessary to build it.
B: That’s a good idea. If it is built, people’s health can be looked after and better.
C: Yes, and If we are sick, we do not have to go to other district or provincial hospital for treatment.
- Go around the class and help Ss to speak out, using the target language.
- Ask some Ss to play the conversation in front of the class.
- Pay attention to their speaking, take notes of mistakes, then correct them (mainly the basic mistakes)
V. Homework (2’): 
- Learn by heart the new words and new grammar point.
- Prepare for the next lesson: Listening
-Look at the words and try to give complete words

- Work in pairs, then compare the results with each other

- Practise the conversation
- Conditional Sentence Type 1 is express something can happen in the present or the future.
Eg: - If he studies hard, he’ll not fail the exam.
- If the roads are widened, cars and lorries can get to our village.
- Ask the teacher if necessary
- Some groups present their conversations in front of the class.
