Unit 10: NATURE IN DANGER Section C: Listening Teachers in charge: Phạm Thị Yên Đang Time allowed: 45 minutes Date: January 29th, 2018 Objective: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: + know more about the national parks. + develop such listening micro – skills as listening for specific information and listening for general information. + learn words related to the topic. Materials: textbook, pictures, handout, blackboard... Procedure: Time Content T & SS’ Activities 5ms Warm – up: Where is it? -Having forests, rivers, caves, animals, plants... -People like visiting because of its beauty. -Cuc Phuong, Cat Ba, Nam Cat Tien... Lead- in: What national parks in Vietnam do you know? *Answer: Ba Be National Park, Bach Ma National Park, Cat Ba National Park... - T divides the class into 2 groups: A and B. -T explains the rule of the game. -T gives Ss a picture and some key words. -Ss work in groups and try to guess this place. T’s instructions: -You’ll look at the picture and listen some key words to guess this place. -The group, which has correct answer firstly, will be the winner. T’s checking questions: -Do you guess the word? -Do you work in groups or in pairs? - T asks Ss a question. - Ss answer this question. 10ms Pre – listening: Set the scene: Today you're going to listen to a text about national parks in the United States. Before listening, I would like to give you some new words. Vocabulary: - scenic feature (n): đặc trưng về thiên nhiên xinh đẹp (translate) - devastate (v): tàn phá, phá hủy (synonym of destroy) - maintenance (n): sự duy trì =>maintain (v) (translate) - approximately (adv): xấp xỉ =>approximate (adj) (another word of nearly or about) - vehicle (n): xe cộ (example) Checking vocabulary: RUB OUT AND REMEMBER Task 1: Work in pairs and answer the questions. What problems that national parks are facing at the moment? What should we do to protect national parks? * Answer: 1. The national parks are being polluted by visitors. 2. We encourage people to help the parks clean and green. - T sets the scene. - Ss listen and follow. - T uses some techniques to elicit the new word. -Ss guess the word and meaning. - T models and asks Ss to listen and repeat. T needs to focus on pronunciation of each word. - Then, calls some students to repeat the new word. Write the vocabulary on the board and asks the meaning of word: “What does it mean?” - Next, T asks Ss: “Where is the stress?” - After teaching the whole of vocabulary, T ought to read each new word again and asks students to repeat. Correction for Ss if they have the mistakes. * Checking vocabulary: - T checks whether Ss remember the new words. - Ss follow the teacher. - T guides Ss how to do the task 1 and gives feedback after some pairs complete the questions. - T moves around the classroom and gives help when necessary. T’s instructions: - Work in pairs in 2ms and answer the questions. - After finishing, I will call on some pairs to give the answers. T’s checking instructions: -Do you answer these questions? -Do you work in pairs or in groups? 20ms While – listening: Task 2: Listen to the passage and decide if the following statements are true (T) or false (F). 1. National parks protect and preserve the natural beauty of the land. 2. They usually contain a variety of scenic features. 3. All national parks are in danger of being destroyed. 4. Large areas of national parks can be destroyed by fire. 5. Visitors do not help to preserve and protect national parks. *Answer: 1. T 2. T 3. If the statement is False, T can ask Ss to correct it. T’s instructions: - Work individually and read the statements carefully - You listen the tape in 2 times and decide if the following statements are True (T) or False (F). - Then, I will invite some students to give the answers. T’s checking questions: - Do you work in pairs or individually? - Do you listen the tape in 2 times and do the task? -T asks students to read carefully the question and find out the key words. T’s instructions: - “Ok, to help you feel easier to answer these questions, here, I will give you the text to fill in the blank.” - T plays the tape again and encourages students to take note the answers. - T calls Ss go to the board to write their answer. - T checks the answers. 9ms 1ms Post – listening: Task 4: Make a dialogue to talk about some problems that national parks are facing currently and what should we do to protect them? Sample conversation Can you tell me some problems that national parks are facing these days? Yes, I can. I think trees are cut down for wood.. You’re right. What should we do to protect national parks? I think we should encourage to plant trees. That’s a good idea. Problems What should we do? Trees are cut down for wood Encourage to plant tree Pollution from visitors’ vehicles Decrease the vehicles Burning forests Limit fires caused by careless people Capturing animals for recreation or entertainment Protect all kind of animals Homework: - Learn by heart all the vocabulary. - Prepare for the next lesson (writing). - T guides Ss to do this task. - Ss follow the instructions of the teacher and do the task in pairs. T’s instructions: -Now class, we will make a conversation to talk about some problems that national parks are facing these days and what should be done to protect them? -On the board, this is a sample conversation. You have to work in pairs in 2 minutes and change information that underlined basing on the following of table in handout. -T calls some pairs to present in front of the class. -T gives them some feedbacks. T’s checking questions: -Do you make a conversation? -Do you work in groups or in pairs? - T gives instruction. - Ss listen and take note.
