Unit 12: sports and pastimes
Lesson 1: a1 - 2
P. 124 – 125 
Teaching points:
1. Knowing some popular sports in English.
2. The Present Progressive Tense and the Present Simple Tense.
Preliminary activities:
Asks about the class situation.
Checks the previous learning.
Corrects homework.
Gives marks and remarks.
Presentation:
Pre – teach: 
 (to) swim, (to) skip, (to) jog, (to) do
Shows the meaning of the words. 
Asks students to repeat. Then calls some to check pronunciation.
Rubs out and remember.
2. Introduces the model sentence: S + be + V-ing
 Example: He is swimming.
 She is skipping.
Notes: 
The ‘One – One – One’ verbs: double the last consonant before adding “ing”:
 Example: swim à swimming, skip à skipping, and jog à jogging
Practice:
1. Plays the tape for students to repeat.
2. Leaves the class to read in silence.
3. Calls some to read again to check pronunciation.
4. Shows students how to do A2:
What is s/he doing? - S/He is playing video games.
What are you doing? - I’m/ we are learning English.
What are they doing? - They are playing soccer.
Then students work in pairs to ask and answer about the pictures of A1 and about themselves.
Controls students to do the survey: ‘Find someone Who’
Students go around asking one another the question ‘Which sports do you play?’
