 Lesson 1: Getting Started & Listen and Read

I. Researching the lesson:
Objectives
Aims: - Reading for details about the situations which require first-aid
Teaching Points: - - Students will be able to know what they would do in the situations which require first-aid.

Practice a dialogue about an emergency at school.
Techniques

Syllabus of teaching and text book. 
The picture (from the school library).
II. Procedure:
Stage 1:	 Warm up
1/ Getting started	Kim’s Games.
Open your books and look at the things on page 80. These things are used for first aid.
Now we divided into two groups. Close your books and go to the board and write the names of those things you’ve seen. Vietnamese is possible.
Now open your book again and read these phrases. 
Key:
Emergency room;	4. Ice.
Sterile dressing.	5. Water pack.
Medicated oil.	6. Alcohol
Now write down what you would do in these situations which require first-aid.
Two groups have the answers.
A girl has burn on her arm.	(use cold water/ice to ease the pain)
A boy has a bad cut on his leg. 	(use Alcohol/medicated oil/sterile dressing)	
A girl has a nose bleed (use a handkerchief to stop the bleed/ tell her to lie down)
a boy has a bee sting. (use medicated oil ..... )
2/ Listen and read
Stage 2: 	Pre-Reading
A/- Pre-Teach Vocabulary
an ambulance: (drawing a car with a red cross)
an emergency : when we need an ambulance. (cap cuu).

	Slap the board.
B/ T or F? Prediction.	Hang the auxiliary board on.
1/ There was an emergency at Lan’s school.
2/ Lan fell off her bike and hit her head on the road.
3/ The girl was conscious but her head was bleeding badly.
4/ The teacher telephoned Bach Mai hospital and asked them to send an ambulance.
5/ Lan was asked to keep the student awake waiting for the ambulance.
+> Students predict those statements
+> six students give feedback. The teacher writes their feedback on the board.
Stage 3:	 While-Reading
+/ Listen to the tape and look at the dialogue in their textbooks.
+/ Teacher and students check the prediction on the board.
+/ Students read the dialogue in pairs.
Two pairs practice again the dialogue in class. And have the correction.

II. Procedure:
Stage 1:	 Warm up
Revision:	Hangman. Things we need for first-aid

Stage 2: 	Pre-speaking
Set the scene
(Questions to make up the scene, for the weaker class T may use Vietnamese)
I want you to get me a bandage. How can I say?
I like you to come to my party. How can I say?
I tell my mother that I'll surely finish my work before bedtime. How can I say?
Model - sentences:	Nhê v¶ - Lêi mêi - Lêi høa vµ c©u tr¶ lêi.
+ Will you (please) get me a bandage (please)?
+ Would you like to come to my party?
+ I promise I'll finish my homework before bedtime.
Check: 
Students work out themselves the rules by asking questions
After formulating the model sentences, elicit some more phrases with the same use from students.

Aims: - Helps student to know how to listen for details.
Teaching Points: - Listening to a paragraph for details about the activities taking place in an emergency room.

Listening practice with the Present Continuous Tense.

II. Procedure:
Stage 1:	 Warm up
Guess from the context: 	What are the actions?
Ask students to look at the picture on page 82 and write out all the verbs describing the actions of people on it.
The group that has the more verbs wins the games.
+Key: drive / wheel / move / push / wait / lie / stand / lean (dựa vào)
Stage 2: 	Pre-listening
Pre-Teach Vocabulary
Eye chart. : b¶ng thÞ lùc
Paramedic : ng­êi phôc vô	What and Where.
Wheelchair: xe l¨n
Stretcher. : c¸ng
Crutches	: n¹ng	=> Copy the vocabulary.
2. Prediction:	 Matching.
- Get feedback from all the class on the board (name of the things in the image)
Stage 3: 	While-Listening
3. Listening.
Listen for the first time to check their Matching.
We’re going to listen to a paragraph contain those words and we must ordered those words as you hear (numbered the word when you hear it from the tape.)
The key: 	A - Ambulance.	B - Wheelchair.	C - Crutches	
	D - Eye chart.	E - Scale (c©n)	F - Stretcher.
4. T / F statements. (on the auxiliary board)
A doctor is wheeling a patient into the emergency room.
The patient’s head is bandaged
A nurse is pushing a wheel chair with a patient sitting on it.
The eye chart consists of 28 letters ranging in different size.
The baby’s mother is trying to stop the nurse from weighing her baby.
+. Read the statements carefully then discuss in the groups to decide which statements is T and which F. is
Listen again then check their prediction.

Stage 4: 	Post - Listening
5. Write it up
Write a story about the activities in the picture, using the Present continuous Tense. Then write again with the simple past Tense.
Frame: 
This / emergency. A paramedic / wheel/ patient /emergency room/ where /wait /treat the patient. The patient/look/well. His head/ bandaged/ eyes/closed.
A nurse/ push/ wheelchair/exit. She /take it/ a patient /ambulance.
A doctor / try / weigh/ baby/scale. Mother /stand/ nearby. She /try /stop/ crying.
The crutches/someone/ broken leg/ against/ wall. 
State 5:	Homework

Stage 2: 	Presentation

Get the form: - Call one student to give the form of the simple future with “will”
