Lesson: SPEAKING – UNIT 2: YOUR BODY AND YOU (NEW)

1. Aims and objects:

- To provide students with the knowledge of good and bad habits to the body and the health.

- To help students know how to get rid of bad habits and discuss those of Viet Nam

- To encourage students to use the language they have learnt in everyday situations.

- Vocabulary: get rid of, swap for, naughty, kick a habit

4. Method: Communicative approach

5. Techniques: Questions and answers, group work

Aims and objects:
To provide students with the knowledge of good and bad habits to the body and the health.
To help students know how to get rid of bad habits and discuss those of Viet Nam
To encourage students to use the language they have learnt in everyday situations.

TEACHING PROCEDURE

I. Stabilization (Warm-up) (1 minute)
- Greets students and introduces observing teachers
- Checks the attendance
- Greet teacher.
-The monitor answers.
II. Presentation of the new materials (23 minutes)
Lead-in: (3 minutes)
-Asks students to play a small game: “Pictures slap”
-Sticks 6 pictures on the board.
-Tells students the rules:
+ First, listen to what activity I say
+ Second, run to the board quickly 
+ Finally, slap the right picture
-Calls two students to play the game
-Gives feedback
-Asks students “These activities are very good or bad for you? And which ones are good and bad habits?”
-Lead to the lesson: “In order to answer these questions, we will study the lesson today, part B. Speaking in Unit 2: Your Body and You”
Before you speak:
Task 1 (2 minute)
-Asks students to do Task 1 in 1 minute
-Calls some students to answer
-Gives feedback
-Lead to Task 2: “Alright, we will talk about the reason why some habits are good but some are bad in Task 2.”
Task 2 (6 minutes)
-Asks students to work in pairs
-Asks them to discuss why some of the habits above are good and why some are bad
-Shows students a conversation:
A: Do you think staying up late is not good?
B: Yes, I think so.
A: Why do you think it is not good for you?
B: Because it makes me feel tired the next morning.
-Gives students a time to practice with their partner
-Calls some students to speak out their conversations
-Checks pronunciation if any and gives feedback
Task 3 (6 minutes)
-Asks students: “What does this task require us to do?”
-Presents some new words:
+ get rid of: ~ eliminate
+ swap for /swɑːp/ (v): to give something to somebody and receive something in exchange
Ex: I swapped my red hat for her blue one.
+ kick a habit: ~ break a habit
-Asks students to listen and repeat
-Asks them to read the text in 3 minutes
-Asks students to work in pairs and answer the question: “Do you think you could follow the advice? Why/ why not?
-Calls some students to answer
After you speak 
Task 4 (6 minutes)
-Asks them to make a list of Dos or Don’t in order to kick the habit: watching TV all day
-Divides class into 2 teams and asks one team to make a list of Dos and another to make a list of Don’t
-Asks students in each team to works in group of 4 
-Asks students to report to the class
-Asks a representative from each team to stand up and begin to say with the structure: In order to kick ‘watching TV all day, we should/ shouldn’t’ one by one
-Gives feedback
-Listen to the teacher

III. Consolidation
(5 minute)
-Asks students to look at the board
-Lets them to play the game: Find the Honey
Find 
the Honey
-Tells them the rules:
+ You have to take your group’s bear to the honey by choosing a suitable route. When reaching a (?) sign, you have to answer the question behind it.
+ A correct answer allows your bear to continue the route. A wrong answer will turn the square into a rock. At this time, you cannot move forward and have to find another route.
+ The bear reaching the honey first will be the winner and get a small gift from me.
-Gives feedback and gives students some gift
-Look at the board

IV. Homework (1 minute)
-Asks students to:
+ practice speaking more with their friends at home about bad and good habits
+ learn the new words
+ prepare next lesson
