PROCEDURE Teacher’s activities Student’s activities Warm-up (4mn) : “TRUC XANH” Teacher shows a small game with brief and clear instruction +Teacher divides class into 2 groups +There were 10 pictures on the screen +Each team will choose 2 pictures.If they are the same picture,your team will get one mark.If they don’t ,your team will lose your turn +The group that has more marks will be the winner Pre-reading (4mn) Teacher raises questions in the Textbook. 1. Do you want to see a film at the cinema or on TV? Why? 2. Can you name some of the films you have seen? 3. What kind of films do you like to see? Why? Teacher asks some students to give their answers. Teacher explain some words to students by giving examples and showing pictures Teacher asks students to guess the meaning of the new words. Vocabulary 1.Motion(n): sự chuyển động 2.Develop(v):sự phát triển 3.Still(a) đứng yên 4.Audience(n): khan giả While-reading (25mn) Task 1 Teacher asks students to read the passage silently in 3 minutes. Teacher has students work in pairs to fill in the blanks. Teacher calls 6 students to read their answers aloud in front of the class. Teacher provides the correct answers. Task 2:Lucky number Teacher asks students to work in pairs and read the passage more carefully and find the answers to the questions in task 2. Teacher show a game with brief and clear instruction T: Firstly,there are 8 pictures on the board.Then,your duty is choose a picture and answer that question. If it is lucky, you don’t need to answer question 1.When did the history of cinema begin? 2.What did scientists discover at the time? 3.Did films in the early days have sound? 4.When were audiences able to see long films? 5.When was sound introduced? 6.What form of films appeared as the old silent films were being replaced by spoken ones? Task 3 Teacher asks students to read the passage again and choose the best title for the passage. Teacher gives students some minutes to do the task and then check the answers with their partners. Teacher calls some students to give answer. Teacher gives the correct answer. Post-reading (13mn) Activity 1 Teacher asks students to work in groups to find the information that is related to these dates, then fill in the table that is prepared by the teacher below 19th century 1905 1910s 1915 1920s Teacher asks students to talk about the history of cinema based on the completed table. Teacher calls some students to speak in front of the class and gives feedback. Activity 2 Teacher lets students watch a short film Teacher assigns homework Teacher asks students to learn new words and prepare part B-speaking Students listen to the teacer Students answer the questions. Students’ answers may vary. Suggested answers: 1. I want to see a film on TV because it is cheaper than at the cinema. 2. I have seen Happy feet, The hunger games, etc. 3. I like horror films because I like something scary. Students work in pairs. Six students read their answers. Answers: 1. cinema 2. sequence 3. decade 4. rapidly 5. scene 6. character Answers: 1. The history of cinema began n the early 19th century (line 1). 2. At that time, scientists discovered that when a sequence of still pictures was set in motion, they could give the feeling of movement (line 2-3). 3. No, they didn’t (line 5, 13-15). 4. Audiences were able to see long films n the early 1910s (line 9). 5. Sound was introduced at the end of the 1920s (line 13). 6. It’s the musical cinema (line 16). Students read the passage again and do task 3. Students check the answer with their partners. Answer: B (A Brief History of Cinema) Students work in groups to fill in the table. Answer 19th century The history of cinema began 1905 Films were about 5 - 10 minutes long (longer then early films which lasted only one minute.) 1910s The first long films were made. 1915 Films became longer and better. Cinemas were first built. 1920s Sound was introduced and old silent films were replaced by the spoken ones. Students talk about the history of cinema based on the cues. Students listen to the teacher and take note.
