A. Objectives:
1. Knowledge:
- By the end of the lesson, students can use the lexical items related to cultural groups of Viet Nam to ask and answer different question types about ethnic people in Viet Nam.
2. Skills: - listening, speaking, reading and writing.
3. Attitude: Educate the students to have sentiment among 54 groups.
B. Preparation:
- Materials: Students’ books, teacher’s book, laptop, speaker and projector.
- Method: T- WC, individual work, pair work and group work.

Week 7 Period 19 UNIT 3: PEOPLES OF VIET NAM Lesson 4: Communication Date of preparation: 28/9/2015 Date of teaching: 8/10/2015 A. Objectives: 1. Warm up (5’) Brainstorming: peoples of Viet Nam Give some more groups if necessary. Students take turn to write names of peoples of Viet Nam Viet, Bahna, Ede, Brau, Giarai, Sedang, Hmong, Tay, Yao, Cham, Khmer III. New lesson - Introduce some ethnic groups of Viet Nam. Ex 1. Quiz: What do you know about the ethnic groups of Viet Nam - Ss work in pairs to do the quiz. T checks and gives explanation. Group work Key: 1. B 2. A 3. C 4. B 5. C 6. A Ex 2. Where do these ethnic groups mainly live? - Ss work in groups. Let them discuss and then write down the ethnic groups in the correct boxes. Encourage them to add other ethnic groups they know of to the list. T moves around the groups and gives assistance where needed. - Group work - Key : -Northwest region: Viet, Hmong, Lao -Northeast region: Viet, Hmong, Tay, Nung -Red River Delta: Viet -The central Highland: Viet, Bahnar, Brau, Ede, Giarai, Sedang -Mekong River Delta: Viet, Cham, Khmer 3. Choose one group and talk about them - Bring the class back together. Write on the board subjects that Ss can talk about in relation to these groups. Elicit these subjects if possible: -location -lifestyle -costumes -foods -festivals/ceremonies -marriage/weddings T may give some facts and/or show pictures to facilitate the activity. Give Ss time to prepare, and then let them talk in groups. Work in groups Each group choose one ethnic group to talk about them using the guided ideas. (students were given the task from last period) Notes: Geographical location of some ethnic groups: •The Viet: all over the country •The Tay, the Nung: North and Northeast provinces •The Muong: Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Son La, Thanh Hoa •The Hani: Lai Chau, Lao Cai •The Hmong: Northern mountainous regions, Nghe An •The Pathen: Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang •The Thai: Son La, Lai Chau, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An •The Bahnar: Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen •The Ede: Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa •The Giarai: Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak •The Brau: Kon Tum •The Khmer: Mekong Delta provinces •The Cham: Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Tay Ninh, An Giang •The Sedang: Kon tum, Quang Ngai,Quang Nam IV. Consolidation (3') - Sum up the main content of the lesson - Where do the Hmong live most? - Where do the Cham live most? - Answer teacher's questions. V. Week 7 Period 20 UNIT 3: PEOPLES OF VIET NAM Lesson 5: Skills 1 Date of preparation: 28/9/2015 Date of teaching: 10/10/2015 A. Objectives: 1. Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, students can read for gist and for specific imformation about The Thai group and they can use vocabulary to talk about one of the two ethnic groups: The Bru-Van Kieu peopl and The Khmer people. 2. Skills: develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. 3. Attitude: Educate the students to have sentiment among 54 groups. B. Preparation: - Materials: Students’ books, teacher’s book, laptop, speaker and projector. - Method: T- WC, individual work, pair work and group work. C. Procedures: I. Organization: 8A: Date - Absentee 8B: Date - Absentee 8C: Date - Absentee Teacher’s activities Students’ activities II. Warm up (5’) Brainstorming: The Thai people Where do they live? What is their population? What is their main food? The Thai people Students take turn to say out what they know about The Thai people. III. New lesson Vocabulary: Elicit from students the meanings Ask them to listen and repeat each word Write them on the board Ask them to record into their notebooks. Introduce the text Ex 1. Ask them to read the pre questions: 1. Where do the Thai people live? 2. What is their population? Ask students to read the text for the first time. Their main food is rice. It is well-known for being unique, colourful and strong. Thai women do. They worship their ancestors. Speaking Ex 4. Read some facts about the Bru- Van Kieu people and Khmer people - Divide the class into two groups, each preparing to talk about one ethnic group. Otherwise, Ss may work in pairs; each of them talks about one ethnic group. - T goes around to assist if necessary. Then ask some volunteers to present to the rest of the class. Ex 5. Talk about YOUR own group - Let Ss talk about their own ethnic group. T may ask them to focus on one or two aspects such as clothing, food, ways of living, customs and traditions, festivals, beliefs, etc. T can also encourage Ss to talk about changes in the life if their people over time. - The leader from each group stand before class to talk about their own ethnic group If time does not allow, leave this ex for student to do as homework. Tell them to search further information about the ethnic group that they took servey. IV. Consolidation (3') ? List things that you know about Thai after reading the passage. Check with the prediction at the beginning of the period. V. Week 7 Period 21 UNIT 3: PEOPLES OF VIET NAM Lesson 6: Skills 2 Date of preparation: 28/9/2015 Date of teaching: 12/10/2015 A. Objectives: 1. Knowledge: - By the end of the lesson, students can listen for gist and for specific imformation about a traditional dis: five coloured sticky rice. And after the lesson, students can write the recipe for a traditional dish. Grammar: present simple; 2. Skills: develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. 3. Attitude: Educate the students to have sentiment among 54 groups. B. Preparation: - Materials: Students’ books, teacher’s book, laptop, speaker and projector. - Method: T- WC, individual work, pair work and group work. C. Procedures: I. Organization: 8A: Date - Absentee 8B: Date - Absentee 8C: Date - Absentee Teacher’s activities Students’ activities II. Warm up (5') ( Whisper) - Teacher divides ss into 2 teams - Call on 5 ss from each team to make 2 lines. Ss in each line number ss from 1 to 5 and the distance from one to one is 1meter - T whispers one sentence to the number 1 of two teams. They must whisper to the next. The fifth student from each team write the sentence on the board. - Take turn - The team with more correct sentences is the winner - Introduce the new lesson - Sentences : - The Thai have a population of about one and a half million people living in the province of Lai Chau. - The Thai also grow other crops on burnt- out land. They also make bamboo items, and weave cloth. III.The new lesson A Listening (17') - Set the scene - Make sure that ss understand the meaning of some words Ex 1.Answer the questions - Ss discuss the two questions in pairs. Then tell Ss to look at the picture and say what they know about that dish. - Get feedback - Play the recording once to check - T confirms the correct sentences Ex 2. Listen and tick T/ F - Play the recording once or twice. Ask Ss to listen carefully and tick True or False according to what they hear in the passage. Ex 3. Listen again and complete the sentences - Play the recording again. Ss write down the words as they listen. Play the recording again for them to check. Writing (18') Ex 4. Read the notes.... - Tell Ss to read the notes carefully Ex 5. Change the notes into cooking steps to show a foreign visitor how to make yellow sticky rice. - Have Ss write full sentences to show the steps to cook the rice. Make sure that they use proper connectors first/firstly, second/secondlyand pay attention to spelling and punctuation. T may collect some Ss’ writing papers and mark them, then give comments to the class. T may ask Ss to write a paragraph as homework( in the form of a letter to a pen friend, for example) if thiere isn’t enough time - Pair work Sample cooking steps: This delicious dish is really easy to make. First, you need to soak the rice in water for at least five hours. Then rinse the rice and drain it well. Next, add the turmeric extract and mix it well. Then wait for 10 minutes. After that, add the coconut and salt. Remember to mix it well. Finally, steam the rice for 30 minutes. Check that it is fully cooked. You can serve this dish with chicken IV.
