Unit 12: A vacation abroad
Period 73 – Lesson 1: Getting started – Listen and read.
I/ Aim: 
Reading for details about making plans for a vacation abroad.
II/ Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to be aware of how to make, accept and decline invitations.

Warm up
Getting started: Guessing game
- Show the pictures to students, one by one, and ask them to guess what country it is.
Answer:
a. The USA d. Britain
b. Australia e. Canada
c. Thailand f. Japan
Chatting:

LISTEN AND READ
New words:
(to) include: bao gåm, gåm cã (translation)
(to) come over: ®Õn, ghÐ (explanation)
(to) pick sb up: ®ãn ai (explanation)

a business meeting: héi nghÞ
- Have students copy down.
Checking vocabulary: R.O.R
- Ask students to close their books and look at the board.
- Rub out the English words, one at a time. Point to Vietnamese words and ask students “What is it in English?”
- When all the words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese words and get students to call out the English words.
T/F Pre questions:
- Set the scene: Mrs. Quyen is going to USA. She is ringing her friend, Mrs. Smith, to tell her about her trip.
- Put the chart of the questions on the board.
1. Mrs. Quyen is calling Mrs. Smith from the airport in San Francisco.
2. Mrs. Smith invites Mrs. Quyen and her husband to stay with her while they are in the town.
3. Mrs. Quyen doesn’t accept Mrs. Smith’s invitation because she wants to stay with a Vietnamese friend of hers.
4. Mrs. Quyen and her husband will be in the USA for 3 days.
5. Mrs. Quyen and her husband will come over to Mrs. Smith’s place for dinner one night.
6. Mr. Thanh, Mrs. Quyen’ husband, goes abroad for a business meeting.
- Ask students to work in pairs to guess the answers.
- Get students to give the answer and write them on the board.
While reading
- Ask students to listen to the tape while reading the dialogue on P.112
- Call on some students to correct the false sentences.

UNIT 12: A VACATION ABROAD
Period 75 – Lesson 2: Speak 
I/ Aim: 
To get students to practice in making plans using tourist brochures and flight information.
II/ Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about their plans for a trip abroad.
III/ Teaching aids: photocopied tables, chart, realia.
IV/ Procedures:

ACTIVITIES 
Warm up
Quize:
- Tell students who can answer the question will get 1 or 2 mark.
1/ What is the end of everything? (letter g)
2/ What word starts with T, end with T, and full of T?
(Teapot; Pot = full of)
3/ What is in the middle of New York City? (York)
4/ Which river in America has 4 eyes? (Mississippi)
Students ask: Do you like your teacher?
Presentation
SPEAK:
- Elicit words from students:
+ an itinerary: lộ trình (translation)
+ a gallery: phòng trưng bày (picture)
+ a flight: chuyến bay (translation)
+ via (prep): qua, theo đường (explain)
+ facility (n): tiện nghi, điều kiện thuận lợi (explain)
+ a brochure: sách quảng cáo (realia)
- Have students copy down
Checking vocabulary: slap the board
- Put the Vietnamese translations all over the board.
- Call on 2 students or 2 teams of 4-5 students in both sides of the class to the front of the class standing at equal distance from the board.
- Call out the English words and students run forward to slap the Vietnamese words on the board.
- The students slapping the right word first is the winner and gets a point for his/her team.
Matching:
- Show the photocopied tables (P.113, 114) on the right if the board randomly and ask students to match them with the right titles on the left.
- Write the titles on the left.

- Call on some students to go to the board to draw the lines to match the tables with the titles.
Practice
Tell me about:
- Leave the tables on the board and ask students to look at them

+ How many flights a week can you take from Los Angeles to Boston?
+ Which flight can you take everyday of the week?
* For the Hotel advertisement table:
+ Which of the hotel is cheaper?
+ How much is a double room in Revere Hotel? How about Atlantic Hotel?
* For the travel brochure:
+ Where can you visit?
Mapped dialogue: 
- Set the scene: These people are making a plan for their trip from Los Angeles to Boston. Let’s do it with them
- Put the mapped dialogue chart on the board.
- Elicit the exchanges from students 
- Have some pairs practice each exchange before going another exchange.
- After finishing the dialogue, call a good pair to demonstrate the whole dialogue.
- Ask some pairs to demonstrate the dialogue.
- Ask students to work in pairs , replacing the information using the tables.
Where shall we stay?
The revere Hotel is expensive but it has a gym.
Where should we visit?
I think we should visit Harvard Medical School, the Museum and Arts Gallery.
What time should we leave Los Angeles?
There is a daily flight at 10. am, would that be O.K?

I/ Aim: 
Listen for information about the weather
Practice in past progressive tense.
II/ Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practice in listening to the weather forecast for information about the weather in big cities in the world. They will also be able to talk about the past activities using past progressive tense.
III/ Teaching aids: pictures, cardboards, gap fill chart, cassette.

- Ask students some questions to lead to the lesson
