LESSON PLAN ENGLISH 8 Period 76: Unit 12: A VACATION ABROAD Lesson 5: Language focus A. AIMS: - Present the formation and the usage of past progressive tense and ‘‘ always” in present progressive tense to make complaints. - Ss will be able to use the past progressive tense and complaints. Warm up: - Greeting - Divide the class into 2 teams to play the game called “shark attack”, choose 2 leaders. -Tell - Tell Ss the rule “ You have to find out one mistake in the table within 5 seconds.If you can’t, you will step down and the other has the right to answer. At the end of the game, the team at higher position is the winner.” - Ask Ss to elect the team to play first. - After the game, tells Ss the aim of the game : to revise the formation of Ving and some Vpast simple. - Lead to the new lesson . II. New lesson: Period 76: Unit 12. A VACATION ABROAD Language focus 1) Look at the pictures and say. - Show a picture and ask Ss: “What is the boy doing?” -Show the picture at the time: “at 7 o’clock yesterday” and give the sentence: “The boy was running at 7 o’clock yesterday”. -Ask Ss to tell the difference between the 2 sentences 1a and 1b. - Show another picture and ask Ss: “What are the birds doing?” -Show the picture at the time: “at 7 o’clock yesterday” and give the sentence: “The birds were flying at 7 o’clock yesterday.” -Ask Ss to tell the difference between the 2 sentences 2a and 2b. -Tell Ss that sentences 1b and 2b present the past progressive tense. -Get Ss to give the formation of the past progressive tense through the example. - Write the formation on the board. - Give the usage of the past progressive tense: to express an action happening at a point of time in the past. - Show the pictures of Exercise 1 - Ask Ss to explain how to do the exercise. - Ask Ss to look at the pictures then ask them questions about the pictures. - Ask Ss to read the sentence (a). - Ask Ss to say what each person was doing at 8 o’clock last night within 2 minutes. - Ask students to say in turns (in front of the class). - Show the key. - Show 2 pictures then ask Ss to make sentences. - Ask Ss to say what they were doing at a point of time in the past. Lead to exercise 2 2) Look at the pictures then match and write - Show Ss two short video clips Present past progressive tense using “while” and “when” through the situations in the video clips - Ask Ss to give the formation through the examples. - Write on the board: When + S + Vpast simple , S + was/were + V-ing While +S + Was/Were + Ving, S + Vpast simple - Give the second usage of past progressive tense : to express an action happening when another took place. - Show pictures of exercise 2 and ask Ss to explain how to do the exercise. - Get Ss to look at the example of picture (a) and read. - Explain new words: Race, cheer and drum through pictures. -Check vocabulary . - Ask Ss to do exercise 2 into groups of 4 students.Give out paper to groups to do the exercise in 2 minutes. - Show the paper of 2 groups to correct the mistakes in front of the class. - Show the key and ask Ss to check. - Show a picture then ask Ss to complete the sentences. 3) Look at the pictures then write and say.
