*Introducing the way to make an invitation and how to accept or refuse it.
1. Warm up:
Matching: T uses the PIcs/ flags on P.111 and asks Ss to match them with the names of the countries in the box.
Guessing game: (guess the Pic)
T says: I want to visit one of these countries. Guess which country I want to visit.
Ss ask: Do you want to visit .?
When the A is ‘yes’, ask another Q with ‘why’. The one who can guess correctly goes to the front and the game continues.

* Practice speaking about traveling plans using tourist brochures
1. Warm up:
Back to the board: ask 1 S from each team to go to the front and sit with their backs to the board. T write sthg on the board
E.g. go abroad, travel by air, stay at the hotel, eat seafood
The rest of the class try to help the member of their team guess the words on the board by giving oral suggestions without mentioning the words.
2. Pre speaking:

When does the flight  take off / land?

3. While speaking:
Role-play: Ss work in pairs, one acts as a tourist and the other as a tourist information officer, using the brochures and flight information
Example exchange:

S2: The Revere Hotel is expensive but it has a gym.
S1: What time should we leave Los Angeles?
S2: There’s a daily flight at 10 am. Would that be OK?
S1: Yes and what can we visit?
S2: I think we can visit museums and art galleries.
4. Post speaking:
Ss use the information they’ve just got from the tourist information officer to complete their itinerary.
E.g.

* Listening to the weather reports for specific information; Practice in using past progressive with ‘while’, ‘when’.
1. Revision:
Bingo: Elicit from the Ss as many weather adjs as possible and write them on the board (hot, cold, warm, cool, sunny, rainy, cloudy, windy, dry, wet beautiful, fine, etc)
Ss choose 3 words from them
2. Pre listening:

Let’s start with Sydney. It will be a dry day in Sydney today, and windy. For the temperature, the low will be twenty and the high will be twenty six degrees.
Tokyo will be dry and windy, with a low of fifteen and a high of twenty two.
London is going to have a humid day. It will be very cold with a low of minus three and a high of seven.
Bangkok will be warm and dry, with a low of twenty four degrees centigrade and a high of thirty two.
New York is going to have a windy day. It will be cloudy with a low of eight and a high of fifteen.
In Paris it will be cool and dry today. The low will be ten degrees and the high will be sixteen.

4. Post listening:
Discussion: Ss work in groups to talk about the weather like in Vietnam, how it affects our lives and why we have to listen to the weather forecast.

Ask Ss read the first and the last postcard in Read P.116-117 and answer the following Qs:
What did Mrs. Quyen and her husband see when they flew over Kilauea Volcano?
What did she do while her husband was visiting the Statue of Liberty?

Interview: divide the class into 4 groups
G1 + G3 discuss and write down what Mrs. Quyen did and saw on her tour in the USA
G2 + G4 discuss and write down the reporter’s Qs and what he may want to know about Mrs. Quyen’s tour
Number all the Ss in group 1+3, and then G2+4 and put them in pairs
Ss work in pairs, one acts as Mrs. Quyen and the other as the reporter and interview each other.

*Practice writing postcards; Progressive tenses with always 
1. Warm up:
What’s wrong?
Ss work in groups of 6 to find the spelling errors (about 10) in the paragraphs given by teacher. The first group to find the total number of errors is to raise their hands, then the second, then the third. T will then check with each group to be sure they have found the right errors. The group to discover the 10 errors correctly is the winner.
2. Pre writing:
Set the scene
Gap-fill: Ss work in pairs to find suitable words to fill in the gaps Write 1 P.118
Substitution: T underlines some parts of the postcards and asks Ss to suggest the words they can use to replace the underlined parts
Suggested words
in the USA: at Ha Long Bay, in HCM City, in Da Lat, on Cat Ba island, etc.
friendly: hospitable, helpful, polite, hard-working, reserved, generous, sociable, humorous, etc.
warm and sunny: dry and windy, warm and dry, cool and dry, etc.

Ss use the postcard Mrs. Quyen sent from the USA as a model and suggestion they’ve just made to do write 2 P. 118

We are having a wonderful time in the USA. The people are friendly and the weather has been warm and sunny.
In San Francisco, I visited my friend, Sandra Smith and her family. It was lovely/ nice to see them.
I bought lots of souvenirs for the children. Thanh is always complaining about the heaviness of my suitcase.

Share and compare: Ss compare their postcards with their partners, they may add or change some ideas or help each other to correct mistakes.
5. LF 3 P.120: use Pic a, P.120 to set the scene.
