+ Vocabularies: Rice- cooking festival, competition, water- fetching, fire- making, starting position, upset, yell, teammate, participate, husk, separate, judge, award, council.

+ Structures: - Compound words: Adjective compound= N+ V-ing.

 Lesson 1: Getting started & Listen and read
I. Aims:
- Students practice listening and reading.
II. Objectives:
After the lesson, students will be able to read for the details to understand and talk about the Vietnamese traditional festivals (Rice- cooking festival).

- T asks Ss: Do you want to play a game?

Ok. I have a situation: I have 5 friends. They are foreigners and they are going to visit Viet Nam. However, each person has his/ her own hobby and they need my suggestions. 
- T asks Ss to look at on the screen. Now, tell me how many pictures are there?
Yes. Let’s match to have correct answers.

- Let’s make the dialogue, I have an example:

- T asks Ss to work in pairs (2 minutes) to practice as the example.
- T calls on some pairs to practice.
- T says: “Last week, we have finished unit 12, today we will move to unit 13”
- T asks Ss to look at the pictures:

 + What does this mean?
-T says: Now, let’s start our lesson. We will find out the rice- cooking festival.
 + What is the date today?
- T asks Ss answer:
+ Open your book page 121.
+ To help you more understand this lesson, I will give you some new words: 
I. New words:
- T gives new words and asks Ss listen and repeat.
+ Festival (n): Lễ hội (picture)
+ Rice- cooking festival (n): Lễ hội nấu cơm (picture: What is this?) 
+ competition (n)= contest (n): cuộc thi
+ water- fetching (n): lấy nước (picture: What are they doing?)
+ fire- making (n): nhóm lửa (picture: What are they doing?)
+ starting position (n): điểm xuất phát (picture: What is this?)
+ yell (v): La hét
+ teammate (n): Đồng đội (we are classmates, so what does teammate mean?)
+ separate st from (v): Tách
+ husk (n): vỏ trấu 
+ judge (n): Ban giám khảo (picture: Who are they?)
+ award (v): trao, tặng (picture: What is he doing?)
+ council (n): Hội đồng
- T asks some Ss read again.
- T requires all whole class repeat loudly.
II. Structures:
1. Compound word: Compound- adjective (C -Adj)
- T gives an example: “Thanks for inviting me to the rice- cooking festival, Ba.”
+ Form: C- Adj= N+ V-ing
+ Use: to form a compound noun. 
2. -T asks Ss to work in pairs (1 minute) to match noun with V- ing to make the compound nouns.

Ba invited Liz to the rice- cooking festival.
There are 3 competitions: water- fetching, fire- making, and rice- cooking.
They made a fire by rubbing pieces of bamboo together.
The judges try the finished products and the most delicious rice is the winner.
EX3: Complete the passage:
There are three competitions in a rice – cooking festival :(1)  , fire – making and rice –cooking .In the water – fetching contest one person from each team had to (2)  to the river to get the water. In the (3)  contest two team members had to make a fire in the (4)  way. They tried to rub pieces of (5) together to make the fire. (6)  people from each team took part in the rice – cooking contest. They had to (7) the rice from the husk and then (8) .. .the rice.
