Educational aim:Students can know some Vietnamese festivals. 2. Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about some festivals in Viet nam. II. PREPARATIONS: Book, cassette tape III. PROCEDURES: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1. Warm – Up: (5’) - Ask students to read carefully the situations in the book and name the places where these people should go: Tom, David, Huckleberry, Oliver, Robinson. Where should he / she go to? Why? ¯ Suggested answers 1. Tom should go to beaches. 2. David should go to Hoi An. 3. Huckleberry should go to Sapa. 4. Oliver should go to Bat Trang. 5. Robinson should go to Ho Chi Minh City 2. Presentation: (10’) - Ask students to tell some festivals they know in Viet Nam. - Ask students to look at the picture and ask questions 1. What festival is it? 2. What are the people in the picture doing? 3. Have you ever taken part in this kind of festival? - Explain new words: 1. Fetch (v) = to go to get sth and bring it back. 2. Yell (v) = to shout loudly. 3. Urge (v) = to make a person to move quickly. 3. Rub (v) (mime) 4. Separate sth from sth (v) 5. Judge (n) 6. Council leader (n) - Explain the grammar note: A rice-cooking festival. ð Form: (a/an) + noun + v-ing + Noun Compound adjective - Ask questions: 1. Do you know how many competitions there are in the rice-cooking festival and what they are? 2. What do people do in each competition? 3. How many people are there for each competition? - Play the tape for students. 3. Practice: (15’) - Ask students to read the dialogue silently to check the answers. 1. There are three competitions in a rice-cooking festival: Water-fetching, fire-making, rice-cooking. 2. In the water-fetching competition, they have to run to the river to get water. In the fire-making competition, they make fire by rubbing pieces of bamboo together, and in the rice-cooking competition they cook rice. 3. One person takes part in the water-fetching competition, two persons take part in the fire-making competition, and six persons take part in the rice-cooking competition. - Ask students to practice the dialogue in pairs. - Ask students to do True/ False sentences. - Have students give feedback. a.
