Lesson D. Writing (Period 5)
A. Aims:

* Warm up:
- Ask students to keep book close
- Ask students some following questions:
1. Have you ever heard a frightenning story?
2. When and where did it happen? 
3. How did you feel?
- Listen and give feedback
- Lead in the new leson:

I. Pre-writing
- Elicit the new words:
+ narrative (n) bài tường thuật (translation)
+ air-hostess (n) nữ tiếp viên hàng không (picture)
+ shake (v) rung, lắc (explaination)
+ scream (v) la hét (action)
+ dip (v) nhào xuống (action) 
+ overjoyed (adj) vui mừng khôn xiết (= very happy)
+ relieved (adj) cảm thấy bớt căng thẳng (context) 
- Read aloud all the word. 
- Read again and ask Ss to repeat after T. 
- Call on some Ss to read aloud. 
* Checking: What and where
II. While-writing
1. Task 1. (in textbook)
- Ask Ss to read the passage
- Ask Ss to work in pairs and find out all the verbs that are in the past simple and connectors.
- Call on some Ss to give the answers
- Listen and give feedback
+ Verbs: started, was, arrived, got, took off, began, thought, were, told, seemed, realized, were, screamed, thought, felt, announced, was, landed.
+ Connectors: on that day, at first, then. Just, a few minutes later, one hour later.
- Explain to students to use the simple past to rewrite a story 
2. Task 2 (in textbook)
 Identify the events, the climax, and the conclusion of the story
- Explain to Ss the format of a narrative: the events, the climax, and the collusion.
- Tell Ss to work in groups and identify the events, the climax, and the conclusion of the story
- Ask Ss to report the result to class.
- Give the answers and explain the development of the story.
The events: got on plane, plane took off, air-hostesses were just beginning to serve lunch when plane began to shake, plane seemed to dip, people screamed in panic.
The climax: We thought we had only minutes to live.
The conclusion: Pilot announced that everything was all right, we landed safely.
3. Task 3
 Build up a narrative about a hotel fire
- Ask Ss to run through the task
- Explain some difficult words (if necessary)
- Ask Ss to works in groups and build up a narrative about a hotel fire using the prompts.
- Call on some Ss to present in front of class
- Give feedback
-> suggested answer: 
  Last year, I spent my summer holiday at a seaside town. The hotel was modern and comfortable. I had a wonderful holiday until it fired. It was Saturday evening and everybody was sitting in the discotheque on the ground floor. It was crowded with people. They were dancing and singing happily. Suddenly, we smelt smoke. Then black smoke began to fill the room. Everybody started to scream in panic. People ran toward the fire exits. One door was blocked. Many people began coughing and choking 
 Then, just as we thought we had only minutes to live, the fire brigade arrived. The firemen fought their way into the room and soon everybody was safely out of the building. Luckily, nobody was seirously hurt. It was the most frightening experience of my life.

 Retell a frightening story in your life
- Ask Ss to retell a frightening story in their lives
- Call on some Ss to present
- Listen and give feedback
