SPEAKING
I- Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students (Ss) will be able to
1. General knowledge: use some common expressions to give opinions and express agreement and disagrement in different degrees.
2. Skill: practice speaking skill by working in pairs and groups to make dialogues.
II- Teaching aids: Textbook, pictures and posters.
III- Anticipated problems and solutions:
- Ss might feel bored with the lesson -> teacher (T) should have some activities to raise Ss’ interest.
- Some Ss may not understand English instructions -> T has to give clear and simple intructions as possible. During the class time, T may use Vietnamese instructions if necessary.
- Ss can’t hear T’s voice clearly because of different accent -> T should speak slowly and clearly enough for Ss to listen.

You will have 10 seconds to look and remember them. Then, you have one minute to write their names on the board. The team with more correct answers will win the game and receive a gift.” Checks instruction. + How many pictures are there? + How much time do you have to write the names of the items? Divides the class into 2 teams. Shows 5 pictures of 5 items related to computer in 10 seconds. Lets Ss run to the board and write their answers. Checks answers and announces the winner. + 5 items: monitor, mouse, plug, socket, keyboard. Lead-in: These are the items related to computer. Do you have a computer at home? I think computers are so useful and necessary, but some people disagree with me. So today, we are going to learn how to express agreement and disagreement to an opinion. Listen to the instruction. Asnwer some T’s questions. Work in group. Write the answer. Listen to the T. T- whole class Pre-speaking 12’ Teaching vocabulary Adjust (v): điều chỉnh + Translation: “How do you say “điều chỉnh” in English?” Amusing (a) vui thích + Synonym: this word is a synonym of the words “fun and interesting” Challenging (a) đầy tính thử thách + Explanation: something difficult in an interesting way that tests your ability. Time-consuming (a) mất thời gian + Explanation: this word means taking a lot of time or needing a lot of time. To each word, T elicits from Ss by some techniques. T reads aloud the words and asks Ss to repeat. T writes the words on the board and has Ss copy down. Checking vocabulary: Rub out and remember T rubs out all the new words and leaves Vietnamese version. Then, T points at the meaning of the words and asks Ss to say aloud the equivalent words in English turn by turn. Activity 1: Brainstorming Asks Ss to close their books. Elicits Ss to find some phrases used to give opinions and express agreement and disagrement . Gives some examples first. Calls some Ss to share ideas. Shows the table as the following and explains to Ss. Repeat the words. Copy down the vocabulary into notebook. Say the words in English. Close the books and listen to the T. Share ideas. Copy down the table. T- whole class While-speaking 20’ Activity 2: Matching. Shows 5 pictures ( appendix 2) and then asks Ss to match each picture with its right caption. + reading a comic- b + playing in the rain- e + using internet- d + eating fast food- c + driving a motorbike- a Activity 3: Debate Gives instruction: “I will divide class into 4 groups. Each group will give opinions for each picture and the other groups will argue by giving agreement or disagreement and the reasons. Use the words in the table above and adjectives in the box page 139 to talk. You will have 4 minutes to discuss.” Checks instruction. + Will you work in pairs? + How much time do you have to work? Makes a model with Ss. S1: I like driving a motorbike. It is very interesting. S2: (agree) Yes, I agree with you. It’s challenging , too. T: (disagree) I disagree. It’s dangerous if you drive too fast. Divides the class into 4 groups. Lets Ss work in group in 4 minutes. Calls Ss to talk and gives feedbacks. Activity 4: Making dialogue Has Ss model the dialogue in task 2 page 139. Gets Ss to look at the table below. Asks Ss to work in pairs in 3 minutes. Calls some pairs to speak and gives feedbacks. Match the pictures with their right captions. Make a model with the T. Work in group and discuss. Talk in front of the class. Model the dialogue. Work in pairs. Speak in front of class. Group- work Pair-work Post-speaking 8’ Activity 5: Write it up Gives a task and asks Ss to write a short paragraph (5-6 sentences) in 4 minutes. + Today, computers are widely used in many fields. Write a short paragraph (5-6 sentences) to give opinions about using computers and explain. Gives some cues. + relaxing: listen to music, watch films, playing games + coveninent: create and send documents quickly + interesting: discover many new things Asks Ss to work in groups of 4. Calls SS to write their paragraphs on the board. Checks and gives feedback. Listen to the T. Work in groups of 4. Write paragraphs in 4’. Share ideas. Group- work Homework 1’ Remind Ss to finish their paragraphs at home and prepare for the next lesson. Listen to the T T- whole class
